Innovation Center Childcare Services

Quality early childhood education plays a pivotal role in the quality of life and economic health of a community. A lack of childcare options equates to fewer homes sold, fewer children in our schools, and recruiting difficulties for our businesses. 

The Innovation Center provides a variety of services to assist communities in addressing their childcare needs and to provide childcare professionals working in the field.

General Childcare Presentation

Description: This general presentation provides a description about the state of childcare (challenges, local solutions) and includes local childcare statistics. This general presentation is perfect for civic groups wanting a general overview of the childcare issue.

Duration:
Approximately 30 minutes.

Community Childcare Presentation

Description: This presentation offers local childcare statistics, examples of how other communities addressed their childcare needs, available resources, and action steps. This presentation is a perfect first step for community groups that want to develop a plan to address their childcare needs.

Duration:
Approximately 30 minutes.

School Districts and Childcare Presentation

Description: This presentation is for school districts wanting more information on operating a childcare facility. The presentation includes local childcare statistics, examples of how other school districts addressed their childcare needs, basic expectations, available resources, and action steps.

The Business Community and Childcare

Description: This presentation provides information on how the business community can support their local childcare providers. This presentation is perfect for Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Organizations, and civic groups.

Customized Community Presentations

Description:  We can create a customized presentation to provide information about community-level childcare initiatives.  This presentation is perfect for community forums and meetings.

Childcare Coalition Services:

Not sure how to tackle your community childcare needs?  Childcare Program Specialist Dana Stanton will help your community work together to address childcare needs.  Utilizing the Child Care Aware of Kansas Community Childcare Coalition process, Stanton will lead communities through the process to:

  • Identify local childcare statistics.
  • Evaluate current childcare needs.
  • Provide examples of how other communities addressed their childcare needs.
  • Provide sample start-up and operating budgets.
  • Childcare Provider Appreciation Events
  • Formulate a plan to address childcare needs to include: 
    • Support of current childcare providers
    • Development of new childcare facilities
    • Potential funding sources
    • Resource referrals to appropriate agencies such as Child Care Aware of Kansas, KDHE, State Fire Marshall and CACFP services. 
    • Grant Writing

Childcare Grant-Writing Services:

Want to apply for a grant to support your childcare project, but don’t have the time or expertise?  The Innovation Center provides two contractual childcare grant writers to help with this process.

Grantees (the organization or individual applying for the grant) will work with Childcare Program Specialist Dana Stanton to develop the needed details for their childcare project including a grant budget.  Each grantee is responsible for completing a grant information sheet.

  • The grant writers require a MINIMUM of two weeks before the grant due date.
  • While the Childcare Program Specialist and childcare grant writers will do their best to accommodate all grant writing needs, they may have to turn projects down due to time constraints.
  • Utilizing a grant writer DOES NOT GUARANTEE that the grant will be funded.
  • The grant writer will provide the grantee a draft of the application and will make changes as requested.
  • It is the responsibility of each individual grantee to hit the SUBMIT button for each grant.
  • There is no charge for grant writing services.

The Northwest Kansas Childcare Provider Conference

The 2025 NWKS Childcare Conference is tentatively scheduled for August 4 & 5. The 2025 conference registration link will be released on December 9, 2025. Check back soon for more details.

The conference is provided at no cost to childcare providers working in licensed facilities (both home and center-based) from the following counties: Cheyenne, Clay, Cloud, Decatur, Dickinson, Ellis, Ellsworth, Gove, Graham, Jewell, Lincoln, Logan, Mitchell, Norton, Osborne, Ottawa, Phillips, Rawlins, Republic, Rooks, Russell, Saline Sheridan, Sherman, Smith, Thomas, Trego, Wallace and Washington.

The conference will include 16 hours of KDHE approved training for participants. The 16 hours includes 4 hours of CPR/First Aid.
Meals are provided to participants.
