Hollie Stramel, who built the business from the ground up with her husband Taylor, describes Udderly Wild’s mission as “Bringing the best from us to you”, and that means offering a large selection of high-quality products hosted on an easy-to-browse-website.
The Stramels opened the business online in February 2019. In 2021, they moved their store to a brick and mortar location in Hays, but when they were unable to stay in their building, the business returned online, where it remains now.
The couple, who reside in Gorham, love their Northwest Kansas lifestyle and basing their business out of the small town. “Gorham is where I (Hollie) have been raised my entire life and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else! I love the small town feel, and it is nice to see familiar faces everywhere you go.”
Stramel sees benefits to being an online-only store. “I am able to get orders shipped faster, and I have more time to design and make new products…and while we loved having our brick and mortar, we were unable to stay in the building we were in, and we just haven’t found our ideal place to reopen!”
Hollie Stramel explained the inspiration behind opening the store. “Our inspiration behind opening Udderly Wild was that we noticed the style in our area was so hard to find. Everything “western” that was offered was not really something that you could drive and find, it was all mainly online and not good quality. We did a ton of research before our grand opening so we could ensure we were bringing the best from us to you.”
Not just for women, Udderly Wild also offers clothes and items for children and men. This is where Stramel’s husband, Taylor, plays a key role, as he is able to play a large part in choosing items that appeal to men. “He found his niche bringing unique men’s ideas to life. He spends hours working to make wood projects for any man cave or garage, and has started making custom signs for nurseries and homes. He is also the one who chooses our men’s clothing, spices, and soaps! He plays a major role in Udderly Wild behind the scenes and we would be lost without him,” commented Stramel.
The Stramels are self-described “go-getters” and Hollie loves the ability to provide creative and fun designs and products for their customers. “We believe the best thing about owning a small business is being able to let our creativity lead the way…we love finding new designs or new ideas to offer to our clients!”
Additionally, the Stramels hand-pick or hand-make each item only if they feel confident that it is a good purchase for the customer. “We only offer designs that we love and would wear ourselves or would hang on our own walls in our home,” explained Stramel.
A major point of pride in the store, and something that sets it apart from its competitors, is that it is size-inclusive. The Stramels wanted to be sure ALL customers feel welcome and have the same options as everyone else. “Almost everything we offer comes in sizes Small – 3XL. I never want to exclude anyone, and with that being said our prices of our graphic tees that we make are the same whether you order a small or a 3XL. I never want to be the store that you walk in that says ‘oh we don’t carry plus size’ or ‘our plus size section is way in the corner’ and it’s so small you don’t have many choices,” said Stramel.
